24 hour Film Challenge
March 13/14, 2010
Shake off the winter haze and polish your lenses for the Multicultural Cinema Club's 24 hour Film Challenge as part of Local Focus 3 Film Festival.
The Multicultural Cinema Club challenges you to test your mettle, strut your stuff, and capture your creativity under the pressure of time. To quote Orson Welles, "The absence of limitations is the enemy of art."
This is a film-making opportunity for the bold at heart.
Here's how it works
- Sign up a team - 8 members maximum
- Pay $25 entry fee to the Multicultural Cinema Club
- Deadline for registering is Monday, March 8
- Each film must include production criteria that will not be revealed until the launch of the challenge
- Criteria categories will be common to all teams, but specific criteria within categories will differ for each team
- Production criteria sheets will be provided in sealed envelopes randomly selected by team leaders at the launch of the challenge
- Meet March 14 at 8:30 a.m. to check in and be ready for distribution of production challenge envelopes.
- Competition officially launches at 9 a.m. with distribution and opening of challenge instructions.
- Spend the day (and night?) writing, shooting, editing a short film (with credits) that includes the criteria of your production challenge package
- Use your own equipment for shooting and editing (rentals may be arranged through MCC on first-come basis; resources are limited)
- Submit your completed film by 9 a.m., Sunday, March 14, in an acceptable viewing format (details to be included with challenge package)
- All qualifying entries will be screened Saturday, March 20, as part of Local Focus 3 Film Festival
- Top film will receive cash prize from mpGO(Media Producers Group of Ontario
Rules:
- Each film must use original music OR have permission to use music OR use copyright free music, such as found in Final Cut or iMovie
- Going over the time limit disqualifies you from winning a prize
- Youth teams must include at least one member over age of majority
Production Guidelines:
- To qualify your film for future broadcast opportunities, avoid use of trademarks and logos
- Standard definition and 4:3 formatting is acceptable, but HD and 16:9 formatting gives your film future shelf life
- Remember doing something illegal and filming it, doesn't make it legal.
- Be safe and use best judgment.
- You are liable for safety and legal issues on your project.
- MCC does not accept responsibility for the actions of participants.
