The 2nd Multicultural Film Festival Report
The Multicultural Cinema Club is happy to publish the results of this event which took place at Kitchener City Hall from Oct 4 to Oct 14, 2007.
This event was organized with a small amount of money and a great amount of love and passion. Here are some interesting statistics:
- Total number of people who attended the event: 463
- Average number of people who attended daily: 46
- Average number of people who stayed for discussion: 20
- Average time of discussion: 20 Min
- Number of movies screened: 10
- Number of people who were registered on our mailing list: 46
- Organizations that sponsored the event: City of Kitchener: Brian Scott and his assistant Heidy Garcia offered a lot of support, arranging the screenings at the Council Chamber, covering the cost of the rights to screen the movies and renting the screen. They also covered the cost of advertising. Waterloo Regional Arts Council: Martin de Groot , Executive Director provided the projector, assisted with planning and advertising , did an excellent job hosting many of the discussions. Social Planning Council :Executive Director Trudy Beaulne assisted with planning and advertising , did an excellent job hosting many of the discussions. CKMS Radio, University of Waterloo: Rob Daniels helped with advertising and holding discussions.
- The following individuals introduced and/or led discussions on various movies: Martin de Groot , Executive Director, Waterloo Regional Arts Council; Trudy Beaulne, Executive Director ,Social Planning Council; Majdi Bou Matar, Artistic Director of MT Space; Kieran Bonner, Sociology Professor UW; Philip Bast, Video Journalist and former Arts Editor for The Record; Kate George, TV researcher and Program Coordinator at CKMS Radio; Rob Daniels, Host/Producer at CKMS Radio; Greg Roberts, The Working Centre.
- Movies screened: Hotel Rwanda; Tsotsi; Children of Heaven; After The Wedding; The Lives of Others; Water; Sabah; The Magdalene Sisters; The Syrian Bride; Maria Full of Grace.
The Multicultural Cinema Club would like to thank all those who helped us and we look forward to meeting you at the next event in March 2008.
